Capello To Become New Russia Coach

Fabio Capello

The Russian Football Union has appointed former England manager Fabio Capello to be the new head coach of Russia's national football team.

The union's deputy president, Nikita Simonyan, said the details of Capello's contract would be finalized in “the nearest future.”

The contract is expected to run until the end of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The “Sport Express” daily said the 66-year-old Italian has been offered up to 6 million euros per year to take over from Dutchman Dick Advocaat, who stepped down after the Russian team's disappointing first-round exit from Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.

Capello has coached Italian clubs AC Milan, Roma, and Juventus and led England's team to an appearance in the 2010 World Cup.

He stepped down as England coach in February.
