Russian authorities have declared a state of emergency in the area around Sochi because of flooding and mudslides.
Emergency services spokeswoman Irina Gogoleva said the state of emergency was declared because of high water levels in rivers in the region following heavy rains on September 24.
Firefighters the next day were pumping water from the streets of the Black Sea coast resort, which is due to host next year's Winter Olympics.
The city was affected by power outages and residents were asked not to leave their homes.
Traffic on some city streets was hampered by knee-high water.
However, Aleksandr Zhukov, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, has told state television that despite the flooding, he has no doubt Sochi will be ready for the Olympics in February.
