Russia says it will sign an agreement with India later this week for Moscow to deliver the advanced S-400 missile-defense system to New Delhi.

Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said on October 13 that the deal would be signed by President Vladimir Putin and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Goa on October 15.

Moscow has touted the S-400 as state-of-the art weaponry.

The system is capable of tracking some 300 targets and engaging three dozen simultaneously, with a range of several hundred kilometers.

Russia and India, whose leaders have held annual summits since 2000, have shared close ties since the Cold War and are now partners in the BRICS group of emerging-market countries.
