Russian Police Kill Three Alleged Militants In Kabardino-Balkaria

Violence is common in Russia's North Caucasus, which includes the restive mostly Muslim-populated regions of Ingushetia, Chechnya, Daghestan, and Kabardino-Balkaria.

Police in Russia's North Caucasus region of Kabardino-Balkaria say they killed three militants in an overnight gunbattle.

Russia's Interior Ministry and National Counterterrorism Committee say the three armed men included a suspect wanted for alleged involvement in a 2005 terrorist attack against police in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Russian authorities say the three men were killed late on October 13 after they opened fire on police who were trying to stop the car they were traveling in.

The car had been reported as stolen earlier on October 13.
