Six Militants Killed In Kabardino-Balkaria

Authorities in Russia's Kabardino-Balkaria region say clashes that began with militants on December 11 in the city of Tyrnyauz have come to an end.

Security sources said on December 13 that four suspected militants and one police officer were killed during the special operations.

Three of the dead have been identified as wanted terror suspects.

Earlier on December 13, officials had said six militants were killed over the last three days.

On December 11, suspected militants reportedly barricaded themselves in a house in Tyrnyauz. The security forces eventually killed those inside.

Violence between Islamic militants and police in Russia's troubled North Caucasus region leaves scores of people dead and injured each year.

Last week, a popular television broadcaster was gunned down in Kabardino-Balkaria's capital, Nalchik.

The region's violence-plagued republics include Kabardino-Balkaria, Daghestan, Ingushetia, and Chechnya.
