Kyrgyz police have apprehended a suspect in the killing of a prominent Russian boxer.

Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry said a Russian citizen, Yan Lebedov, was detained at Bishkek airport on December 13 as he was trying to fly to a European country on a Kyrgyz passport.

Lebedov is wanted by police in Russia's Siberian city of Omsk for allegedly stabbing to death Russian boxer Ivan Klimov last month.

Omsk law-enforcement officials are on their way to Bishkek to identify the detained suspect.
