Russian LGBT Activists Detained In St. Petersburg

Russian police have detained around 30 lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights activists who took part in an unsanctioned rally in St. Petersburg. Several dozen activists gathered at the city's Palace Square holding rainbow flags and placards on August 4. Russia passed a law in 2013 banning the spread of gay "propaganda."
