Chute First, Ask Questions Later

This Russian man had to be rescued from a trash chute after trying to escape his girlfriend.

A Russian man had to be rescued by emergency workers from a trash chute after he jumped in to escape his girlfriend.

Officials said the 31-year-old man jumped into the chute on the eighth floor of a building in Tyumen, in Siberia, but got stuck after sliding down three floors.

As the French news agency AFP notes, Soviet-era buildings in Russia frequently have a metal trash chute in the stairwell with a latch opening on each floor.

The man had to be cut out by rescue workers before he was taken to a hospital. He was not seriously hurt.

His relationship with his girlfriend may have sustained injuries, however.
