Russian Foreign Minister Heading To Pakistan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is headed to Pakistan on October 3 for two days of talks with President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

Pakistan's Foreign office says the talks will focus on Afghanistan, as well as business and political ties.

While Lavrov is in Islamabad, Pakistani Army chief of staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will be in Moscow to meet with his Russian counterpart.

Pakistan's Foreign Office announced last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin had postponed a trip to Islambad to attend a summit meeting this week with the leaders of Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.

No clear reason was given for the change in Putin's schedule.
