Poland: Russia's Kaliningrad Missile Deployment 'Inappropriate'

Poland has raised concerns over Russia's deployment of nuclear-capable Iskander missiles into its Kaliningrad exclave bordering Poland and Lithuania.

"We believe that the Russian response, the moving of missiles, is an inappropriate response to NATO's activity," Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said on October 10.

Russia said on October 8 that it had moved the missiles into the Kaliningrad region.

The deployment of the missiles comes amid heightened tensions between Russia and the West over Syria and Ukraine.

Kaliningrad, the westernmost part of Russia, houses the Russian Baltic Fleet, as well as multiple land forces and an air force detachment with fighters, bombers, and helicopters, as well as an early-warning radar system and other equipment.
