Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted a state award to the son of Rosneft head Igor Sechin for "longstanding" service to the country's fuel and energy sector.

In a January 20 decree, Putin decorated Sechin’s son, Ivan, with the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, 2nd Class, which honors civilians for their success in a range of fields.

Ivan Sechin, reportedly 25 years old, is a first deputy director of a department focusing on joint shelf projects at Rosneft, the state-owned oil giant run by his father.

The younger Sechin has worked at Rosneft for less than a year.

Igor Sechin, a longtime Putin confidant, is one of several members of the Russian president's inner circle slapped with U.S. and EU sanctions last year over the Kremlin's role in the Ukraine crisis.
