Russia Proposes To Host Syria Talks Next Week

Russia says it is aiming to host a round of talks between Syrian officials and opposition leaders next week.

"Next week, we will invite opposition representatives to a consultation in Moscow," Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on November 3.

He added that the meeting will “possibly be with the participation of government representatives."

The proposal is expected to be discussed on November 4 at a meeting in Moscow between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UN Syrian envoy Staffan de Mistura.

Russia launched a bombing campaign in support of President Bashar al-Assad on September 30.

At international peace talks in Vienna last week, Moscow said it wanted Syrian opposition groups to participate in future discussions on Syria.
