Russia's Federal Security Service said on March 6 that it prevented the assassination of businessman Konstantin Malofeyev, an active supporter of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. According to the agency, the media tycoon's assassination was a main goal of a group of Ukrainian saboteurs, the Russian Volunteer Corps, under the command of Denis Nikitin, who also uses the name Kapustin. No details were given. Russia said last week that the Russian Volunteer Corps crossed into the western region of Bryansk and fired on civilians. Kyiv has denied any involvement and suggested that Moscow might be seeking a "false-flag" pretext to stage new attacks on Ukraine. To read the original story by RFE/RL's Russian Service, click here.
