One Killed, More Than A Dozen Injured In Russian Jet Explosion

One person was killed and more than a dozen others injured when a Russian passenger jet burst into flames on a runway at an airport in Russia's Far North.

The Tupelov-154 plane with nearly 130 people on board was preparing to depart from the Siberian oil town of Surgut for Moscow when one of the plane's engines caught fire.

Russian flight officials say passengers and crew were evacuated when emergency crews were unable to put out the fire, but a subsequent explosion caused burns and carbon monoxide poisoning in some of the passengers.

One body with severe burns was later found among the wreckage.

Local transport authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the incident.
