Saudi Arabia Arrests 18 Alleged Spies

Saudi authorities say they have arrested 18 suspected spies.

The Interior Ministry said that the suspects include one Iranian, one Lebanese citizen, and 16 Saudis.

It said the group was working for a foreign country, which it did not name.

The statement said the arrests took place four days ago in “coordinated and simultaneous operations in four regions of the kingdom," including the capital, Riyadh, and the city of Mecca.

Already tense relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran soured after Saudi Arabia deployed troops to the Gulf kingdom of Bahrain in 2011 to help crush a Shi'ite-led uprising there.
