Two Suspected Militants, One Police Officer Killed In Nalchik

Security forces in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria say a police officer and two suspected militants have been killed in a special operation in the capital, Nalchik.

The two militants barricaded themselves inside an apartment block after police tried to detain them on October 12.

Officials say the militants opened fire on police, severely wounding one officer, who later died in hospital.

Violence between Islamic militants and security forces in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region leaves dozens of people dead and injured each year.
