Russian consular staff have visited Roman Seleznyov, a Russian national arrested by the U.S. on fraud charges, in Guam, where he is being held.
Officials at the Russian Consulate in San Francisco said on July 14 that diplomats also met with Seleznyov’s attorneys and with U.S. authorities.
Seleznyov, 30, is a son of Russian lawmaker Valery Seleznyov.
He was arrested on July 5 in the Maldives by the U.S. Secret Service and transported to the Pacific island of Guam, a U.S. territory.
He is accused of hacking U.S. retail computer systems to steal credit-card numbers.
Seleznyov was indicted in March 2011 on charges including bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.
The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier called Seleznyov’s arrest outside the United States and his transfer to Guam "an unfriendly move."
