BEZDAN, Serbia -- Serbian authorities and residents of Serbian areas along the Danube River are taking measures to prevent flood damage as the river's water approaches record levels.
Predrag Maric, head of the emergencies department at Serbia's Interior Minister, said dikes have been checked and emergency teams deployed to high risk areas.
The army has been placed on standby in Serbia's northern Vojvodina Province.
While residents are mainly remaining in their homes, they are moving their belongings to higher ground.
In the northern region of Bezdan the level of the Danube River is 754 centimeters, just below the record of 776 centimeters in 1965.
Serbian officials say they do not expect the sort of flood damage seen in Central Europe earlier this month.
