Serbia To Deepen Ties With Non-Aligned Movement

Serbian President Boris Tadic

President Boris Tadic said Serbia intends to boost political and economic ties with member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, whose 50th anniversary was marked on September 5.

Tadic was addressing delegates of more than 100 countries gathered in Belgrade where the first session of the movement was held in September 1961.

He said it was in "Serbia's national interest to deepen and renew the historical friendships that were cultivated over decades."

The movement united nations that did not support the United States or the Soviet Union.

None of the states emerging from the fomer Yugoslavia joined the movement, aspiring to join the European Union instead.
