Slovenia Suspends Four Ski Officials Over Vanessa-Mae Results

Slovenia's ski association has suspended four officials for allegedly manipulating race results to allow violinist Vanessa-Mae to compete at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February.

Mae, competing in Sochi for Thailand under the name Vanessa Vanakorn, came 67th and last in the Olympic giant slalom.

The Slovenian Ski Association said on July 11 it had found evidence indicating the races it hosted in January were "fixed at the behest of Thai officials to meet her qualifying criteria for Sochi."

It said four officials involved in organizing the races had been suspended. The findings will now be forwarded to the police and the International Ski Federation (FIS).

The Slovenian association president, Jurij Zurej, said Vanessa-Mae might not have known about the violations at the time.
