Snowden's Father Gets Visa To Visit Son In Russia

Lon Snowden

The father of former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden says he has secured a visa to visit his son in Russia.

Lon Snowden did not say when he might visit Russia.

Appearing on ABC TV on August 11, he said he wants his son to return home at some point. But he said he thinks it is unlikely his son could have a fair trial.

Lon Snowden's lawyer, Bruce Fein, who also received a Russian visa, said they will travel there "very soon."

Edward Snowden, a former National Security Agency contractor, faces espionage charges in the United States for leaking classified information about U.S. global Internet- and telephone-surveillance programs.

Russia's decision to grant him temporary asylum was one of several issues that led to President Barack Obama canceling a one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next month.
