Iran's parliament speaker says he supports the nuclear agreement with world powers that will limit Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
Ali Larijani reiterated his support for the deal on August 31 at the world conference of speakers of parliaments in New York where he also said that Tehran demonstrated in the nuclear talks that “the weapon of force and bullying” is ineffective.
Larijani’s comments come two days after Iran's President Hassan Rohani said he opposed a parliamentary vote on the deal because its terms would turn into legal obligations if passed by lawmakers.
Larijani, formerly Iran's top nuclear negotiator, didn't mention a possible vote.
He said: “Some Western countries [used] the weapon of sanctions. But our nation chose the path of resistance. “
He added that ultimately the Iranian nation was the winner.
“Tough and complicated negotiations concluded, and we support [the result],” he said.
