A senior Ukrainian security official told RFE/RL that a missile strike was one of several causes being considered for the crash of a Ukrainian airliner over Iran. Hours later Western media began citing unnamed U.S. officials making similar comments -- and then President Donald Trump said he also had "suspicions" about a "mistake" by Iranian forces. Iran insists the plane had an accident.
