Police in northern Afghanistan have rescued a woman who was sentenced to death by stoning.
The woman, named only as Halima from northern Konduz Province, was said to have been condemned by the Taliban to death for cheating on her husband.
She allegedly had an affair with a man from a neighboring village.
Her husband accused her of infidelity and turned her over to the Taliban.
A spokesman for the Konduz provincial police, Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, said officers were tipped off about the planned execution evening and raided the village.
Hussaini said the Taliban fled the scene before the police arrived.
The woman was found locked in a room in a compound used by the Taliban.
