Israeli Airliner Lands Safely After Hoax Threat Scrambles Swiss, Austrian Jets

An Israeli airliner en route from New York has landed safely in Tel Aviv following a bomb alert that turned out to be false.

Israeli officials said U.S. airport authorities reported receiving an anonymous threat and informed Swiss authorities as the El Al Boeing 747 entered Swiss airspace.

The Swiss Air Force scrambled jets to accompany the plane and established visual contact with the pilot, authorities said. Austrian jets were also scrambled.

An airline spokeswoman said that after the alert Flight LY002 was continuing its journey "as scheduled."
