Dozens Reported Killed In Aleppo Blasts

People gather at a site hit by missiles fired by a government air force fighter jet in Azaz, north of Aleppo, on January 13.

Dozens of people have been reported killed in twin explosions at the university in Syria's northern city of Aleppo.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 52 people were killed in the explosions.

The group said its death toll was based on reports from doctors and students.

Activists said missiles fired by government jets were responsible for the blasts.

Aleppo Governor Muhammad Waheed Akaad said 80 people were killed and scores of others were injured.

State television blamed rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad's regime, and said "terrorists launched two rockets" at the university complex.

The university is said to be in territory controlled by the army.

Aleppo is Syria's largest city and has been a major front in the conflict between government troops and rebels since July 2012.
