Israel: Arab Citizen Uses Paraglider To Infiltrate Syria

Israel says one of its citizens has used a paraglider to fly illegally into neighboring Syria.

Officials say the paraglider flew on October 24 across the Golan Heights.

The military described the man as an Arab from the predominantly Muslim town of Jaljulia, northwest of Tel Aviv.

Israeli aircraft dropped illumination flares around the Golan Heights overnight before calling off the searches on October 25.

The military has not confirmed reports that the man may have been trying to join a Syrian opposition group.

Israel officially maintains a neutral stance on the Syrian conflict, but dozens of its Arab citizens have reportedly sneaked into the country in recent years to join the civil war.
