Syrian Security Forces Reportedly Kill Eight In Fresh Raids

Syrian activists say security forces have killed at least eight people and arrested dozens as part of a military crackdown on antigovernment demonstrators during the past 24 hours.

At least seven reported were killed in raids in the Jabal al-Zawiya region of the northern Idlib province late on July 13.

The latest reported casualties comes as part of a widening campaign to crush dissent against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

U.S. President Barack Obama has said Assad has "lost legitimacy" for failing to carry out promised democratic reforms in Syria.
