Human Rights activists in Syria say security forces killed at least 28 people on April 9 in and around the southern agricultural town of Daraa during funerals for protesters shot dead by troops a day earlier.
A statement by six Syrian human rights groups says 26 people were killed on April 9 at funerals in Daraa, flashpoint of more than three weeks of antigovernment demonstrations.
The rights groups say two others were shot dead during a gathering on April 9 in the industrial town of Homs in west central Syria.
Earlier, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told Syrian President Bashar al-Assad he is "greatly disturbed" by the security crackdown on protesters on April 8.
Ban said he was particularly concerned about reports that 17 people were shot dead in Daraa and another 10 killed in surrounding villages.
