One Killed As Syrian Forces Fire On Residents Fleeing To Lebanon

A woman was killed and five people injured today as Syrian forces fired on residents attempting to cross into Lebanon to escape their country's recent wave of violence.

A Lebanese security worker said Syrian forces sprayed bullets over a crowd of people at the border crossing near the northern Lebanese town of Wadi Khaled.

A Lebanese soldier was among those wounded.

Thousands of people from western Syria have crossed into Lebanon in recent weeks to escape violence as security forces crack down on antigovernment protesters.

Human rights groups say more than 775 people have been killed in Syria since the start of protests against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in mid-March.
