Tajik President Starts Visit To China

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon began a five-day visit to China on June 1.

Rahmon is due to meet with Chinese leaders to discuss bilateral relations and will attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

China is Tajikistan's second-biggest trading partner after Russia.

Chinese companies have invested in a number of projects in Tajikistan, ranging from the repair and modernization of electrical power stations to gold mining.

There are also an increasing number of Chinese workers in Tajikistan who are participating in those projects.
