Tajikistan Plunged Into Darkness (natural sound)

Power went back on across Tajikistan after a problem at the country’s biggest hydropower plant caused a nearly three-hour blackout аcross the Central Asian nation.

Residents of the capital, Dushanbe, and towns across the country reported being without electricity on October 28.

News reports from Dushanbe said streets were completely dark, with not even traffic lights working. Some cell phone service was reportedly working.

The company that operates the Nurek hydroelectric dam said there was an outage at the facility, which provides up to three-quarters of the country's power.

Tajikistan, one of the poorest former Soviet republics, is heavily dependent on hydroelectric power and regularly experiences electricity outages. .
