10 Bodies Recovered From Collapsed Building In Astrakhan

Rescue and search teams at the scene a collapsed nine-story building in Astrakhan have recovered the bodies of all 10 people who had gone missing in the hours after the disaster.

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry said all the people who resided in the building are now accounted for after a gas explosion on the sixth floor of the building collapsed the entire structure.

Four managers of the local gas company are being investigated on suspicion of failing to follow fire-safety regulations.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin -- who is seeking a third term as president in an election scheduled for March 4 – flew to the site on February 28.

Putin ordered that the inhabitants of the building be given new homes.

February 29 has been declared a day of mourning in the Astrakhan Oblast province.
