Authorities Confirm Tolokonnikova's Arrival At Siberia Prison

Jailed Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova

Russian authorities have confirmed that a jailed member of the Pussy Riot performance collective, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, has arrived at a penal colony in Siberia.

Russia's state agency supervising penitentiaries, the FSIN, said on November 14 that a special letter has been mailed to Tolokonnikova's relatives with information about her new penal colony in Krasnoyarsk Krai, where she is expected to serve the remainder of her two-year term.

Tolokonnikova was transferred to Siberia after going on a hunger strike to protest conditions and alleged death threats by officials at a penal colony in Russia's Republic of Mordovia.

Her relatives have not heard from her for more than three weeks.

Tolokonnikova was jailed for hooliganism for a 2012 performance in a Moscow cathedral that criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She is due to be released in March.
