Pakistani officials say they are trying to confirm if a U.S. missile strike has killed a top Al-Qaeda leader in Pakistan.
News reports say Ilyas Kashmiri may have been killed when drone-fired missiles struck a house in the village of Gowakha, on the outskirts of Wana, the main town in South Waziristan late on June 3.
Kashmiri is one of the five most-wanted militant leaders in Pakistan.
He is accused is of planning a string of high profile attacks on Western and Pakistani security-force targets inside Pakistan.
Indian officials have alleged he was also involved in the 2008 Mumbai siege that killed more than 160 people.
