The United States government says it will seek to execute Dzhokhar Tsarnaev if he is found guilty of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombings in April.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said on January 30 that he has authorized prosecutors to seek the death penalty for Tsarnaev for his alleged role in the April 15, 2013, bombings that killed three people and wounded 264 more.

Prosecutors allege that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his borther, Tamerlan, both ethnic Chechens from Russia, planted two pressure cooker bombs that exploded near the Boston Marathon finish line.
Tamerlan died days after the bombings in a shootout with police.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 20, has pleaded not guilty.
