Tunisia To Extradite Qaddafi's Ex-Prime Minister

Tunisia has announced it will extradite the former Libyan prime minister back to his country.

Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi's lawyers, as well as human rights groups, had opposed his extradition out of concern for his safety.

Mahmoudi was arrested in September for illegally crossing into Tunisia as he tried to flee to Algeria, where members of late ruler Muammar Qaddafi's family had sought refuge.

Mondher Bedhiafi, a spokesman for the Tunisian Justice Ministry, said the extradition would take place in the coming weeks, after the legal paperwork was completed.

Libya has been clamoring for the repatriation of Mahmoudi to face charges stemming from his alleged actions as Libya's prime minister under Qaddafi.

Qaddafi and one of his sons were executed by the rebels last year.
