Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says one of the Brussels attackers was caught in Turkey in June and deported.
Speaking at a news conference, Erdogan said that the man was deported to the Netherlands at his own request and Turkey also notified Dutch authorities.
He said Turkey also warned Belgium the man was a militant.
Erdogan said "despite our warnings that this person was a foreign terrorist fighter, Belgium could not establish any links with terrorism."
Erdogan said on March 23 that the Belgian authorities released the suspect despite Turkish warnings that he was "a foreign fighter."
Erdogan did not name the attacker. But an official in the Turkish president's office identified him as Ibrahim el-Bakraoui.
