Turkish PM At Mine Site As Death Toll Rises To 238

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says a mining accident has killed at least 238 people, and some 120 more workers are believed still to be trapped.

Erdogan arrived on May 14 at the site of the accident in western Turkey after canceling a trip to Albania.

He told a news conference that the accident "is being investigated thoroughly."

A large crowd of families and mourners have gathered at the mine since an explosion on May 13 caused parts of the mine to collapse. The blast is being blamed on an electrical fault.

The Turkish government has declared three days of mourning.

Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz says 787 workers were underground at the time of the explosion.
