Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he'll ask Washington to extradite an Islamic cleric he accuses of plotting to topple his government with concocted graft accusations and secret wire taps.
Fethullah Gulen has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1997 when secularist authorities raised accusations that he was involved in Islamist activity.
Gulen denies that he engineered a police graft investigation against Erdogan and other Turkish officials.
But he has publicly denounced Erdogan over moves to shut down the investigation by purging police ranks and the judiciary of his followers.
Erdogan says Gulen contrived criminal allegations that his son and the children of three ministers were involved in a corruption scandal and took billions of dollars in bribes.
Erdogan also accuses Gulen's Hizmet movement of bugging thousands of telephones and leaking audio recordings.
