Volunteers in Turkey Prepare Syria Aid Mission

IHH volunteers are learning how to set up a tent. They are preparing to cross the border into Syria where they will build tents for people displaced by fighting.

The IHH volunteer facility is located in Gaziantep, around 70 kilometers from the Syrian border.

Volunteers work together to build a tent.

The head of the IHH facility shows a journalist a map of camps they operate inside Syria.

The IHH bakery is operated by 28 people working in two shifts.

They bake 100,000 loaves of bread every day to feed 50,000 people in the camps on the Syrian side of the border.

Volunteers cut meat in the IHH kitchen.

Others are stirring bean soup...

...before pouring it into containers for delivery.

The kitchen has produced 80 of these 100-liter containers of soup for today’s delivery.

A Turkish charity is training volunteers to cross the border into Syria and erect tents for internally displaced people there. The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation volunteers are also cooking food which they deliver daily to some 50,000 people on the Syrian side of the border. (RFE/RL's Petr Shelomovskiy)
