Activists: Government Tanks Encircle Two Syrian Towns

Syrian activists say tanks have surrounded two towns active in protest activity against President Bashar al-Assad in a continuation of violent unrest that began 10 weeks ago.

The activists, speaking on condition of anonymity, said security forces began attacking the cities of Rastan and Talbiseh in the central province of Homs early on May 29.

Human rights organizations say over 1,000 people have been killed since the movement to overthrow the president began in mid-March.
