On September 1, Kyiv's School No. 309 admitted 218 children from families displaced by fighting in eastern Ukraine. At a ceremony marking the start of the new school year, the school's director told the new students she admired their "courage and loyalty to Ukraine." The wife of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Maryna Poroshenko, who also attended the ceremony, said the children were all "part of the Ukrainian family." (RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service)
