Ukraine, Russia, EU To Resume Gas Talks

Ukrainian officials say they will resume trilateral talks with Russia and the EU on a gas pricing dispute later on June 15 in Kyiv.

Ukraine's state gas company Naftogaz said the talks were scheduled to start at 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Moscow time).

The announcement comes with a deadline for Ukraine to pay a $1.95 billion debt by June 16 or face the prospect of Russian natural gas deliveries being halted.

Such a stoppage could also disrupt the gas flow to European countries.

The talks are being mediated by EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger.

Ukraine has accepted a European Commission proposal of $326 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas for an interim period.

But Moscow has insisted that Ukraine pay $385 per 1,000 cubic meters, a price that Kyiv says is not based on market prices.
