Ukraine, Russia To Continue Gas Talks

Kyiv and Moscow reportedly will restart talks on June 7 about their dispute over Russian natural gas deliveries.

A Ukrainian official says negotiations will take place from June 7 to June 9, and that Kyiv is considering paying off all Ukraine's debts for last year's Russian supplies.

The two sides differ on what Ukrainian state energy company Naftohaz owes, and about the price Ukraine should pay for future Russian gas deliveries.

Russia more than doubled the price it is asking from Ukraine -- to nearly $500 per 1,000 cubic meters -- after pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych was ousted in February.

A spokeswoman for the European Union’s energy commissioner, who also is meant to participate in the talks, said on June 6 that the dates for renewed negotiations have not yet been confirmed.
