Tymoshenko Lawyer Summoned For Questioning In Ukraine

Serhiy Vlasenko, is reportedly being interrogated regarding a case he might be involved in.

The top lawyer for imprisoned former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Serhiy Vlasenko, was summoned on November 11 for questioning by prosecutors on suspicion of beating his former wife.

Marharyta Velkova, the spokeswoman of the Prosecutor-General's Office, told RFE/RL that Vlasenko was "officially informed that he is suspected of repeatedly causing bodily harm and wilfully perpetrating acts of violence against his ex-wife."

Separately, Velkova suggested prosecutors could ask the court to arrest Vlasenko, but said prosecutors had already petitioned for him to be granted bail.

Vlasenko himself had earlier on November 11 texted an opposition lawmaker that he feared possible arrest, but prosecutors denied that.

Vlasenko had denied similar accusations from his former wife in the past as a formal pretext to prosecute Tymoshenko's top defense lawyer.
