Ukrainian police detained some 40 of about 100 people from the Svoboda nationalist group who were protesting a pilgrimage by Hasidic Jews in Uman.
Some Svoboda members were carrying signs that read "Uman Without Hasidics" and shouting "Ukraine for Ukrainians" at the rally on September 25.
Police broke up the protest.
Every year at this time thousands of Hasidic Jews come to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and to visit the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov who died in 1810.
The head of the local Svoboda chapter, Tetyana Chornomaz, said her group has nothing against Jews but complained that pilgrims violate laws and that local authorities do nothing to stop them.
