The Moscow-based human rights group Memorial has said that a Ukrainian-Canadian should face trial after being added to the Simon Wiesenthal Center's list of most-wanted former Nazis.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center recently ranked 91-year-old Vladimir Katriuk as the fourth-most wanted man on its list of suspected former Nazis.
The move follows a new study alleging he was a key participant in a village massacre in Belarus during World War II.
Katriuk moved to Canada in 1951.
In 1999, Canada’s Federal Court ruled that Katriuk lied about his voluntary service for Nazi authorities during World War II in order to obtain Canadian citizenship.
But in 2007, the Canadian government overturned the earlier decision to revoke Katriuk’s citizenship due to what it said was a lack of evidence.
