The United Nations says it will contact U.S. officials over a report that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) bugged the organization's New York headquarters.
UN spokesman Farhan Haq was responding to a recent report in "Der Spiegel" that the United States succeeded in gaining access to the internal UN video conferencing system in 2012.
The German magazine's August 25 report cited secret U.S. documents obtained by fugitive former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden.
Earlier reports in "Der Spiegel" and Britain's "The Guardian" newspaper have detailed alleged widespread NSA surveillance of European Union offices, including diplomatic missions in Washington and at the United Nations in New York.
