Kerry's Wife Critical But Stable

The wife of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has been hospitalized in critical but stable condition in Kerry’s home state of Massachusetts with an undisclosed illness.

The State Department said Teresa Heinz Kerry, 74, was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on July 7.

Heinz Kerry had earlier been admitted to the emergency section of a hospital in Nantucket, Massachusetts, where the Kerrys had been vacationing for the Independence Day holiday.

The State Department said Kerry had accompanied his wife.

No details were available on the nature of Heinz Kerry's illness. Her description was described as critical but that doctors had stabilized her.

Heinz Kerry, the widow of Senator John Heinz, heir to the Heinz condiment fortune, married John Kerry in 1995 and is known for her philanthropic work.
